Outage Information

In today’s world, our expectations for instant results are always increasing. At the tap of a button we can check the weather, pay a bill, video chat with our doctor, and even order groceries. With this abundance of convenience and technology, we are also able to enhance the way we monitor the power that we deliver to you. But this new and improved way of monitoring does not change the way your power is distributed. Severe weather, transmission outages, and equipment failure will always exist, but by increasing awareness and working together through these times, we can help one another through those unnerving moments when the lights are out. Your understanding and patience as we battle the challenges that come our way do not go unnoticed and are appreciated beyond measure by all of us at Wyrulec Company.

Reporting Dangerous Conditions

It's Wyrulec's job to maintain the power system to provide safe, reliable service. You can help by reporting power line conditions that need attention, such as:

  • Broken or leaning poles
  • Broken or sagging lines
  • Trees growing into lines
  • Broken insulators
  • Sparks coming from electrical wires or equipment
  • Construction activity under power lines

Never Touch A Downed Or Buried Line... It Could Be Dangerous!

If your power goes off, check fuses or circuit breakers in your home. If there is no trouble with your fuse box or breaker, check to see if your neighbor is also without power. Please report any outages to Wyrulec.

If your call is not answered immediately, it may mean others are out of power and Wyrulec is working as fast as possible to answer telephones and dispatch crews to get service back on.

Questions & Answers

We always have a dispatcher available 24/7, every single day and night of the year. Our members are priority; delivering power to you is what we do! When our phone lines receive a large amount of calls at one time, only so many can get through. Picture it as a huge crowd trying to enter through a single door; only so many can squeeze through at one time.  Telephone equipment and cell phone towers also use electricity. If this equipment is out of power, telephone calls simply do not work.  The same can occur with internet communications.

We are fortunate to have an AMI (Advance Metering Infrastructure) system in place. This means that at most times we can see when your power goes out, because we lose a signal from your meter.  This system was fully deployed in the beginning of 2020, so that was not always the case in years past. During business hours, and when extra monitoring is needed during storms or power supplier issues, we are monitoring this system and have taken extra steps to prepare to respond to your outage. Please try calling us again if you have information that you feel we need to know; for example if you see a tree hanging in the lines, a vehicle or equipment hit a power pole, you have heard a loud transformer boom, etc. If you know that the power outage is extended (your neighbors or friends are also out of power), you can be assured that Wyrulec is aware of the problem and working diligently to restore power. Please follow our Facebook page, which is linked to the home page of this website, for updates on restoration.

Yes! Over the last few years, a number of things have been put in place to increase member convenience and communications. Additional phone paths to receive calls, battery backups, and a IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system is in place to assist our dispatchers. When you call after hours and get our IVR greeting, this is only the beginning of your outage reporting. You are not talking to a computer in the place of a person, you are simply entering your information, so that a live person on the other end can serve as many Wyrulec members as possible. You always have the option to speak with a live dispatcher; and if you are first to report an outage in your area, you are automatically transferred to a live person.

No, please do not use Facebook to report your outage. Wyrulec uses Facebook and our website as a resource to provide our members with information. During  times of extended outages, you can seek out updates and information there. Facebook is not a tool designed to use for outage reporting and we do not use it to do so. Please call our office or dispatch center at 877-WYRULEC (877-997-8532) to report your outage.

Wyrulec Company is a distribution cooperative, which means someone delivers power to us, and we distribute/deliver it to you.  WAPA (Western Area Power Administration) and Tri State G&T are the two companies that deliver power to Wyrulec. If there is an outage somewhere keeping power from reaching Wyrulec, we do not have power to deliver to you. WAPA and Tri State G&T will troubleshoot remotely and have crews work onsite for outages, just as Wyrulec does on the power lines we own. We work closely with these companies to restore power as quickly as possible whenever they have an outage.

Wyrulec Company does NOT supply power to the City of Torrington, or to the towns of Lingle, Fort Laramie, or Guernsey. If you live in one of these towns, you must call your power supplier for assistance. We DO supply power to the towns of Meriden, LaGrange, Hawk Springs, Huntley, Yoder, Veteran, Jay Em, and Hartville. Our Cooperative is not responsible for any outages other than in our own service territory. Wyrulec Company serves a large portion of Goshen County, and also parts of Platte and Laramie Counties in Wyoming. We are also proud to serve western Nebraska in Banner, Scottsbluff, and Sioux Counties. Check out our service territory map on the About Us page.

When severe weather strikes, equipment failure can happen. When the unknown occurs, it takes time to safely restore power.  Estimating time of arrival or restoration is not a matter of “flipping a switch”. Wyrulec crews are extremely knowledgeable and they work as quickly as possible, but repairs take time, and poor weather conditions can slow their travel, especially if the storm has covered a wide area. Every electric consumer should be prepared for an outage to last at least two hours, and that includes all Wyrulec members. We encourage you to plan ahead and be prepared in case of a power outage.
